The NNFF guestbook is the heart of our foundation -- so many people have found kinship and support in each other! Please spend some time reading through the entries made throughout the past three years (click icon on right). Talk about your experience! Keep in mind that if you have an urgent question, you should email Donna or Jackie as we do not review the guestbook on a daily basis!

Comments about the web site: Hello NNFF, I was just checking out what was new in your website. You girls are doing a great job. I know that you have given me the strength that I needed to get through all the emotions and the scars that I have had to deal with because of NF. I hope that I was some help to the two families that I emailed tonight. You girls have been great and I would love to help anyone who has had NF or has had a family member get NF. I want to give back what you were able to give me when I needed you. You've helped me to except myself as I am. And believe me it's been a very bumpy road to travel.

My name is: Cyndy Aldous

Comments about the web site: My NF experience began three years ago as a slip and fall with massive bruising in my left lower leg. The course of my illness was slow and rocky. I kept my leg and my life, but have some loss of muscle and lymph system in the affected area. The best decision I made during my recovery was to insist upon physical therapy. Not only did it build strength, but my therapist also broke down scar tissue that had formed in the area. It took me a full two years to recover. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Comments about the web site: This is my fourth time researching Necrotizing Fasciitis for patient care. The health care providers who requested information include a family practice physician, an orthopaedic surgeon, an infection control nurse, and a podiatrist. I met the patient after he underwent several surgeries and was being discharged. I was amazed when I saw the extent of the condition from his toes to the thigh. Your site is commendable.

Comments about the web site: I have personal knowledge ofthe Susan Dougherty case. I am friends with her first cousin. This was an avoidable tragedy. Her family was and is still devistated. Dr. Sanko was negligent and has admitted so. Strong Memorial Hospital has paid off the family. We put our trust in those who care for us in our hospitals and when they don't live up to that trust, tragedys happen. I am a health care professional and I know that medicine is not an exact science but what happened to Susan could and should have been avoided.

Comments about the web site: I found this page after my father was diagnosed with N.F. Jan. 16 1998. He is still in the hospital recovering. There was no apparent trauma, his first symptoms were tender places on his face, and a very sore pimple on the inside of his nose a couple of days earlier. Perhaps his eyes were the point of entry. He had slight fever, however, he never had any of the other flu-like symtoms. The infection attacked his eyes swelling them shut in a matter of hours. The wonderful doctors at Boulder Community Hospital got him on IV antibiotics right away and saved his life. He has had no surgery and his eyes themselves were not harmed. By January 25, 1998, the swelling was down enough for him to see and watch the Super Bowl. Ironically, he arrived at the hospital for a scheduled appointment to have an angiogram done. The swelling had already started and the doctors admitted him and took immediate action. When I found out what he had I searched and found this site. Apparently my dad had a minor case (thanks to the doctors) as I read about many with amputations and muscle loss. As of this writing, Feb 6, 1998, puss is still draining from his eye lids. The scabs are healing from his eye lids and under his eyes. For general information, the doctor told me there were two other cases at that hospital in the last year, both fatal. He said that the other cases started in their hands and progressed too far for treatment by the time they came in. I would like to know if there is a database to try and find common characteristics, etc.

Comments about the web site: I cought the bacteria last year over Labor Day. It happened one day while I was on leave from school. The doctors ended up taking the majortiy of the skin off the top of my foot and up the side of my leg as well. Anyway, my sister said she got in touch with the people here at the foundation and they wanted to hear from me. I spent about 2 months in the hospital, but my recovery is going very well. I accept what happended to me and am trying to get on to bigger and better things. If anyone would like someone to talk to then they can always email me. Untill later, peace, love, and happiness.

Comments about the web site: As a paramedic, I recently attempted to resuscitate an individual who was described as having similar symptoms as mentioned on the web page. As he was not breathing and had no pulse, I was busy attemting to revive him and did not pay any attention to the scarred tissue on his arm. Unfortunately, he did not survive. He was diagnosed a week earlier with a strained chest muscle from pushups. I await the autopsy results and notification from the Board of Health as to what followup I need, if any February 15, 1998

Comments about the web site: I work on a surgical floor at Duke and since Duke University Medical Center is one of the few places in the area that has a hyperbaric chamber, we may see more patients with this. The number of patients we see may be more with people traveling long distances. Most of the patients I've seen have come in with little to no past medical history and have said, "This was just a pimple a week ago, then the next day it was the size of a golf ball, then the next day it was the size of an orange, then the next day it was the size of a grapefruit, etc" Most pateints I've seen have a relatively small amount of damage compared to what NF can do. I plan on sharing medical information with other nurses that I work with so that we will be able to give better nursing care. Thanks for writing to me and if I can help you or your Foundation in the futuer let me know.

Comments about the web site: I have heard so much through the news about how this disease is affecting us, but nothing 'about' the disease. So I searched the net and found you. Comments about the web site: My wife, Cobin is currently hospitalized with NF in Riverside General Hospital, Riverside, CA. After a little over a week they want to send her home due to no insurance with most of her leg thigh 12"x8"x3" open with no skin. They want me and my 14 year old daughter to change the dressings and look for further signs of the return of the infection. Any help regarding wound care would be appreciated and any information on the hospital discharging her for not having insurance. (They don't come out and say that but as soon as they found out she only has $1200.00 of total coverage, she is being sent home). How much does this cost anyway?

Comments about the web site: I believe that this site will be useful for everyone has any kind of health problems. Over the years, my partner and I have studied various forms of alternative health fields, and we have help lots of people with minor to suvere medical conditions to "feel better" (Certain agencies doesn't allow the words of "GET WELL" to be used") In the site, we feature different articals about health. If anyone has a question or wants to learn more about a particular topic please let us know. Our goal is that this site will be used to help anyone who is in need to "feel better".
