My name is: Susan T. Jones-Alba

Comments about the web site: As I write this, my uncle is battling this terrible condition. His left hand was amputated on Sat., Jan. 30th and he continues to be maintained on a ventilator, in the Intensive Care Unit of a local hospital. This webpage has done an excellent job of explaining NF and I will share it with my aunt and others that I know. It is amazing to me that many physicians are so woefully ignorant of this disease. The efforts of the persons responsible for disseminating this vital information are commendable and deserving of support from all of us who have been touched by NF. My family and I will send a contribution.

My name is: Ken Turner

Comments about the web site: Read Your Story With Interest. I am a survivor of the dreaded Necroting Fasciitis which affected me on the left side of my neck and shoulder. I contracted the bacteria after undergoing major surgery for the removal of a carcinoma in my lower right mandible and the subsequent reconstructive surgery. My bodyweight went down to six stone(84lbs) at the peak of the infection and it was generally thought that I would not survive. The bacteria melted the bone graft in my chin and ate a good portion of my neck with it. It took ten months before my body was actually clear of the bacteria and during this time my jaw was pinned together with steel screws and pins. Eventually ,when it was sure that I no longer had the bacteria in my body I underwent Construtive surgery on my chin again using bone taken from my hip and muscle from my chestThat was ten years ago and now I am as fit as ever I was and my weight is once more up to 168lbs.My hobbies include walking the coastal paths of Britain.

My name is: TerRessa Curtius

Comments about the web site: My Father just won his fight with this horrible 'Flesh Eating Bacteria' in the process he lost all the flesh starting under his left arm and ending just at the bottom of his hip. He still has a long road of skin grafts and therapy. His bacteria started when he had abdominal surgery, we are one of the lucky one's. And my heart reaches out to anyone who has lost a loved one to this bacteria or has been through the terrible ordeal of watching them suffer. The information I have found on this web site has answered a lot of questions and concerns my whole family has been left with following the last few days. I thank you very much. Sincerely, TerRessa Curtius

Comments about the web site: I am re-visiting your site. My Mom, Jeanne Herrington passed away on June 18th of this last year after 62 days in the hospital with NNFF. All of this happened because she went to a Periodontist (I thought he was an Oral Surgeon, but he was not!) She fought, fought, fought to live! Incredibly strong. But not strong enough to survive this horrible disease. She had toxic shock syndrome which destroyed all of her vital organs. I miss her every day of my life, and still ask "Why???" It all happened so fast -- within a matter of a few hours, from the dental procedure to life support. Dear God, help these Professionals find a cure, increase the odds of survival. Give us in grief some peace with the passing of our dear ones. Please keep this website up. We need this! Thank you so very much.

Comments about the web site: On Feb 9, 99 I lost my brother-in-law, Dave, to this disease. As it seems with all the other cases, he too started out with flu like symptons and a sore arm. He was told during his brief sickness to go home, rest and take advil. Right up until his last few hours they (Doctors, specialist) were still puzzled as to what he was suffering from. They continued to treat his arm for blood clots, not actually looking into his arm until it was too late. It is down right scary to look at all the other cases and see that they are all the same, almost word for word. I am still in disbelief of all the doctors ignorance that were invovled in this tragdy. At 36, Dave will always be remembered by his beautiful wife, 4 wonderful young kids, loving parents and sister, parent in-laws, extended family and friends and of course his brother-inlaw.

Comments about the web site: On April 20, 1998 I pulled a groin muscle playing softball. It didn't bother me until 24 hours later when the pain became unbearable. After three trips to the emergency room and a diagnosis of a muscle pull or spazm over a three day period, my wife took me to another hospital. Within 15 minutes they knew what I had and began to try and stop it. Unfortunately this cost me my left leg at the hip.

Comments about the web site: Bill Horvat befriended my father 25 years ago. He has been in and out of VA hospitals with various ailments during this time. Comments about the web site: I am so glad I have found your web page! I work at St Mary's burn and wound care center in Tucson, AZ. We see so many cases of Necrotizing fasciitis. The good news is we are successfully curing people. Most people don't even end up losing limbs, etc. It is definitely a serous problem and not to be taken lightly. I know of a couple people that are desperately fighting to live right now. They have been in the hospital for months. I am going to tell everyone about your web site and get your book as well. Keep up the good work. God Bless!
