| Hi there..glad to have found your site. Not too long ago, I recieved a call from my aunt, she just said my leg hurts, I begged her to go to the ER, thinking she had maybe a blood clot. She said she was fine. I did not know she had a sore on her leg. In the morning, my brother called me and told me she had been taken to the ER via ambulance because she was having trouble with severe weakness. Within hours she was rushed to surgery to try to remove the infection, her leg was opened up from the calve up to her thigh. That evening we got news that her prognosis was not good and that she had NF. We were in shock, we rushed to the hospital where they had her on a ventilator, 3 different IV antibiotics, 2 units of blood and platlets several times a day, and many different meds to keep her BP up. Her BP was falling and they were having a hard time keeping it stable. After 5 days on life support and many specialists in and out. We lost our sweet Aunt to this horrible illness. I can't believe how fast it stole her away from us. We didn't even get to talk with her because of the ventilator breathing for her., she was in multi organ faliure. If I only knew, If only more people knew about this devastating illness, we could have made sure she got help sooner. I hope by joining your site to help educate myself and more people about this. In memory of my precious aunt. Stephanie Kappus March 6, 1943 - September 5, 2010. |
