Dr. Stanley Sorkin
June 22, 1934 - October 17, 2003

My Dad passed away on the 17th October 2003 aged 69 to NF. My Dad was an extremely special man. He spent his whole life as a doctor caring for others. My Dad had a true zest for life and enjoyed life with his family to the full. He was a devoted, loving husband, Dad, father-in-law and Granddad. On the 14th October 2003, he attended A&E with severe pain to his left upper torso. He was given pain relief but showed no other symptoms at this stage. He developed a thirst and a fever. On the morning of the 15th October, he was seen by the plastic surgery team having developed a rash which was immediately identified as NF. He was transferred to surgery whereby the surgeon debrided the infected area which covered the majority of his torso. During surgery he went into cardiac arrest. Following surgery he was transferred to ICU and never regained consciousness. On Thursday 16th October he went down to theatre again, at this stage the NF had spread much further. My Dad very sadly passed away form multiple organ failure and blood poisoning due to the NF in the early hours of Friday 17th October. His family were with him throughout this horrific ordeal. Losing Dad has left an inexplicable void. NF leaves so many unanswered questions. A greater understanding and recognition of this tenacious disease is needed. I love my Dad with all my heart. He was everyone's best friend. We all desperately miss him.
