Elizabeth (Betsy) Joanne Bliley
November 29, 1965 - December 2, 2005
My name is Michael C Bliley of Asheville, NC. My wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) Joanne Bliley, died December 2, 2005 leaving two sons, John S. Bliley, 22 years old, and Hunter C. Bliley, 10 years old. Elizabeth started feeling bad on her 40th birthday. The night of November 29th, 2005, she started running a fever. She laid in the bed on day on Wednesday, November 30th. She was complaining about a pain on her inner thigh, but we could not see or feel anything. I told her when I got home on Thursday, if she was not better she was going to the hospital. I got home about 10:30 am and she was getting worse and showed me a placed on her inner thigh. She wanted a bath first, so I gave her a bath and she walked to the car and we went to the hospital. She was immediately taken in and the nurses could not get a blood pressure or pulse. They could not get an IV in and was saying it was because she was a big women. After a few hours they had the IV's and was trying to raise her blood pressure. At approximately 7:00 pm the surgeon was going to do the surgery. My son and I talked to her and said it would be ok. My wife asked me if I was scared and I told her I was. I had never been so scared in my life. When my son and I came back just before 8:00 pm. the nurses were running in and out of the ICU. Other people in the waiting room said there was an emergency. My son just looked up and said that is my mommy. Shortly after the doctor came out and took my son and me into the room and explained what happened and said there was nothing else they could do. My wife's heart stopped before surgery and they revived her, but her blood pressure was to low to do the surgery. I was alone and my son did not want to be in there. So I was in and out for the next 4 hours by my wife's side and trying to watch my 10 year old son. The last time I went in was about 2:30 am and this was when I watched her blood pressure drop from about 50 over 30 to 30 over 18. Her heart stopped for the last time and I had to make the decision to let her go. That is the hardest decision I have ever made. My wife went perfectly good health to death in less than 2 days. I am having a hard time dealing with this. Thinking I should had done something earlier. Now I have a 10 year old who has lost his mommy and I have to be strong. GOD has blessed us with almost 11 years of marriage and 2 wonderful children. Now I have to have faith and know GOD will take care of my family. I loved my wife with all my heart and I know she knew this and she will be with us in spirit. I would not want anyone to have to go through this.
