Dorothy Mae Sargent
March 11, 1924 - January 7, 2008

On 01-06-2008, our Mother was not feeling well and had flu like symptoms. She became weak and had fallen but had no open wounds. By 10:00pm she had become pale, clammy and her blood pressure fell below normal so an ambulance was called and Dorothy was taken to the hospital. Many tests were run in the ER to attempt to determine what was wrong. The doctors determined that she had an unknown infection so she was transferred to the ICU. By 10:00 am on 01-07-2008, the doctors confirmed that she had Necrotizing Fasciitis and required immediate emergency surgery. At that point the doctors informed the family that there was only a 20% chance of survival and that even if she did survive, the recovery would be brutally painful. At 12:30pm she was taken to surgery and by 1:30pm she was dead. We still don't know how she got the disease. She had no open wounds and no recent surgery.
