My mum started to feel unwell on the Saturday and thought she had the flu but she did not seem to be getting any better. A week later her leg started to hurt her and also her groin. I then started to worry and told her to see a doctor and she did but he just said she had a virus. The pain still did not get any better so my dad called the doctor again and he did not have a clue what it was but was concerned so he sent her to hospital in an ambulance. This was the Sunday.

She had lots of tests but they still did not know what it was so they kept her in overnight. The next evening I went to see her and she looked poorly but was in good spirits and the nurse told me that they thought it was an infection. I went home that night and my dad rang me at about nine o'clock to say we had to go to the hospital but they would not tell us anything over the phone. When we got there it was the plastic surgeon who spoke to us and tried to explain what my mum had got but we just could not take it in. They took her down to surgery straight away to remove what they could. They thuoght they would have to remove the whole leg but they managed to save it but she was in intensive care for two weeks and she never regained conciousnes. She got septicemia and eventually died of multi organ failure on the 17th April 2001.

We all miss her more than words can ever say.
She was not only a remarkable mum but also my best friend.
